What Does Metabolism Do?
Metabolism is the rate which energy is spent by your body while doing its daily processes. This energy is used by every organ in your body and also millions of tiny bio-electric reactions in the blood which keeps every cell in your body alive so in turn they can keep you alive.
Exercise
If you want to boost your metabolism you should start exercising on a daily basis. Intense aerobic exercises are needed to take your metabolic rate to its highest level so you can burn off more calories than you consume. Just remember this about burning calories – There are thousands of books out there which will tell you how to easily burn more calories, but save yourself the effort of reading all these books and confusing yourself, if you want to burn more calories – TRAIN HARDER! Another way to raise your metabolic rate is through resistance training, it isn’t as effective as aerobics but it still adds up. Regular exercise gives you many benefits including better joint flexibility, stronger bones and muscles and lower blood pressure.

Sleep
Sleep not only recharges our energy which we have depleted throughout the day, but it also helps us to maintain a healthy weight. See, when we deprive ourselves of sleep we cause an increase of the hormone “ghrelin” which is responsible for increasing our appetites. To avoid this happening make sure you sleep for around 7 or 8 hours every night, a good way to get some sleep is to tire out your eyes by reading a book in bed. Another great method is to do a little meditation before you hit the sack, meditating helps you to clear your mind and will allow you to fall asleep a lot faster.
Diet
Try Eating Small Meals Throughout The Day
Your metabolism will be higher throughout the day if you stop eating a few large meals and trade them with smaller ones every couple of hours. Eating smaller meals simply means you use less energy processing the meals as opposed to your digestive system working overtime digesting large quantities of junk food. If you avoid skipping meals and remember to only feed your digestive system healthy food you will in turn avoid confusing the whole system, your body will work at its optimum capacity and thus reserve your energy for other purposes. If you decide to follow this advice make sure that you are not just eating more of the same sized meals each day, you need to reduce the size of the meals which you are currently eating for this to work properly.
Don’t Restrict Your Diet
If you restrict the amount of calories you consume you will shrink your average metabolic rate. Your body will act badly to this restriction and will force itself into a “somatic response”. This event causes every system in your body to slow right down. Your metabolic rate will resemble a yo-yo, going up and down erratically at random times in the day, often resulting in lack of sleep and mood swings. Remember, keeping a steady metabolism is not about increasing or reducing the amount of calories you eat, its about eating the right types of calories, those which your body can actually process into useful living cells.
